The TEC Gateway at the Nimbus Centre invites you to a breakfast morning on September 1^st to discover a fresh perspective on how third level institutions work with businesses and provide research that has real commercial value across many different fields.

This fast paced event is centred on overcoming key challenges for industry and will offer guidance, solutions and information on government supports and Irish & EU funding. Explore the exceptional innovation supports available at Nimbus and network with industry experts and a range of successful clients who will discuss real projects and case studies from real businesses – like you. Those interested can enjoy a tour of our laboratories and see exciting Internet of Things demonstrations.

This event is an ideal opportunity to discuss your technology needs with a range of world class research/engineering experts.

The TEC Gateway is the industry interface of the Nimbus Centre and is one of Enterprise Ireland’s 15 Technology Gateways. TEC has a staff of 90 engineers with specialists in the fields of Hardware, FirmWare, Software, Data Analytics, UX (User Experience) & UI (User Interface), HMI (Human Machine Interface) and Communications- wired and wireless. The TEC Gateway completes 60+ industry projects a year with a turnover of €4.5M per annum.

We also work closely with our colleagues in Waterford, Athlone, Tralee and Letterkenny Institute of Technologies as part of the Applied IoT Group. This provides us with the scale and capability to tackle even the most challenging of projects.

The event will run from 08.30-11.30am in the Tourism and Hospitality building at the Cork Institute of Technology.

Technology Gateway Network Industry Showcase May 10th

Nimbus’ Industry Division the TEC Gateway will be at the Enterprise Ireland Technology Gateway Network Industry Showcase May 10th in the Carlton Dublin Airport Hotel.

This industry showcase event is an opportunity for companies to network with the 15 Technology Gateways and discover how the Technology Gateways can help your company on its innovation journey. There will be an opportunity to view technical demonstrations from each Gateway as well testimonials from industry on how their collaborative industry projects with the Gateways helped their company. Enterprise Ireland staff can explain what Innovation Supports you can avail of to assist your company in the development of a high impact collaborative project.

The following speakers from industry will present case studies on their experiences of undertaking collaborative projects with Technology Gateways:

Enterprise Ireland Innovation Voucher Open Call May 4th-18th

The Nimbus Centre at the Cork Institute of Technology is a registered knowledge provider of Enterprise Ireland’s free €5,000 Innovation Voucher initiative. The Innovation Vouchers programme is open to all small and medium-sized limited companies registered in Ireland.
The Innovation Voucher call is open from Wednesday May 4th to Wednesday May 18th and Nimbus can help you with your application. For more information on this programme please see Enterprise Ireland.

The TEC Gateway is the industry interface of the Nimbus Centre. It is a one-stop-facility for business R&D support in the region. TEC works extensively with companies who have requirements for ICT innovation, particularly in embedded systems. TEC makes it possible for companies to rapidly take a product concept and get to prototyping stage using a multi-disciplinary engineering team approach.

Examples of the services that Nimbus can deliver through Innovation Vouchers are listed below:

• Funding application support
• User, business and technical requirements analysis
• Architecture development
• Prototype development to pre-commercial phase
• Access to on-site technology transfer office and CIT Industry Liaison Office

NEW Innovation Voucher – Horizon 2020 (Pilot Call)

NEW Innovation Voucher – Horizon 2020 (Pilot Call)
Enterprise Ireland are pleased to announce the launch of a new Horizon 2020 Innovation Voucher. This will run on a pilot basis for an initial period of 6 months.

Background

Horizon 2020 is the EU Framework Programme for research and innovation in Europe which will provide funding of €79 billion for research and innovation and boost jobs and growth across the European Union and in Ireland over the period 2014 – 2020. The programme presents numerous opportunities for companies, large and small, to carry out innovative R&D and product development.This Innovation Voucher allows Small Enterprises to explore and apply for the Horizon 2020 opportunities with the assistance of a public sector Knowledge Provider.

Eligible activities

• Analysis of how similar companies have benefited from participation in collaborative R&D programmes such as Framework Programme 7
• Proposal preparation
• Partner search and due diligenceCompanies that have participated in European Framework Programme (FP7) projects are not eligible to apply for an Innovation Voucher. Companies can only apply for one of these standard €5,000 vouchers during the pilot call.

This Pilot Call is open for 6 months from 1 September 2014 and will be reviewed.

Nimbus turn-key Phase 1 feasibility study service for SME partners.

OPPORTUNITY

The H2020 SME instrument fills gaps in funding for early-stage, high-risk research and innovation by SMEs as well as stimulating breakthrough innovation. It provides easy access to funding with simple rules and procedures.

€3 billion pledged to the SME instrument call
Only SMEs will receive funding

SMEs decide how to organise the project and with whom to collaborate, including subcontracting tasks if they lack in-house capabilities.
Funding for development across multiple topics: energy, food, water, health, agriculture, marine, climate, transport, security, etc

Nimbus/Tfi Support Offering

Nimbus and Tfi are offering their joint services to SME’s in carrying out Phase 1 feasibility studies to investigate innovative new ideas and technologies in order to support SME’s in securing Phase 2 funding to further develop, test and validate their ideas.

Nimbus has a proven track record in successfully receiving funding in EU FP6 & FP7 programmes. Nimbus has domain expertise in energy, water, tourism, health and smart systems and can provide research skills, system design, prototyping and testing in each of these areas.

Tfi are experts in assessing new concepts from State-of-the-Art IP analysis to identifying and examining new and existing market opportunities for client companies.

Together, Nimbus and Tfi are offering a turn-key Phase 1 feasibility study service for SME partners.

This Centre is a significant partnership between Cork Institute of Technology, Cork County Council and Cork City Council.
