Within CIT, Nimbus has research collaborations with the Departments of Electronic Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computing and with the Cork Centre for Architectural Education.

Nimbus has current funded national research collaborations with University College Cork (Tyndall National Institute, Environmental Research Institute, Cork Constraint Computation Centre, Complex Systems Laboratory, Department of Computer Science), Trinity College Dublin (Department of Computer Science and Statistics), University College Dublin (School of Computer Science and Informatics) and NUI Galway (Energy Research Centre).

 One of the more unusual Nimbus Collaborations is SMACS, Small Craft Emergency Response and Survival Training for Arctic Conditions.
